Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts—a member of Trinity Health Of New England, the region’s largest nonprofit health system—seeks experienced Certified Physician Assistants to join our in-house surgery team on a full-time basis as part of our Physician Assistant Surgical Service team at Mercy Medical Center.
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a cohesive team of surgical Physician Assistants who work under the direction and supervision of orthopedic surgeons. This position is ideal for a self-motivated and experienced PA who wants to maximize their skill set. In this position, the Physician Assistant will be responsible for managing patients with complex surgical pathology. Candidates need to be proficient in the assessment and management of emergency room consultations and post-op patients, as well as possess operative skills to first assist on cases requiring emergency surgery in all surgical subspecialties. Additionally, this position will respond to nursing staff inquiries on problematic post-op floor patients. Critical thinking skills will be required to problem solve and execute the management of challenging patient situations.
The PA will be required to efficiently assess and accurately identify the status of the patient by phone to the covering surgeon and will provide surgical consultation to the ED and hospitalist physicians on patients requiring admission or consults. The role is 8:30 PM -7:00 AM with 4 ten-hour days. Rotating weekends which are included in the 40 hours/week.
Surgical Physician Assistants are committed to carrying on a tradition of excellence as a valued member of the Department of Surgery at Mercy Medical Center. As a member of the Surgical PA Team, you will be committed to updating your skills as technology evolves. This position would require experience in the acute care/surgical setting. The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program who is eligible to be licensed to practice as a Certified Physician Assistant in Massachusetts. A current federal DEA and eligibility for Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration will be required. The candidate must have certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
With a recent market analysis of Physician Assistants' salaries at Mercy Medical Center, this position comes with a very competitive salary based on experience. In addition, competitive night and weekend differentials will be offered. An applicant who has successfully completed a postgraduate general surgical residency program is preferred but is not necessary.
